Get Job Ready with Health and Community Skills for 17-24 Year Olds
This short course is specifically designed taking into consideration the interests of young people to the health and disability industry in New South Wales. It covers basic topics like safe movements and infection control, how the body systems work, and what health and community care workers do. It’s perfect for young people thinking about a career in this field or who just want to learn how to support others.
Potential future career opportunities
Assistant in Nursing, Support Worker, In-Home Respite Worker, Personal or Community Care Attendant, Ward Person, Physiotherapist Assistant, Podiatrist’s Assistant, Activities Officer and Diversional Therapy Assistant.

- Trainer will guide you through theory and prepare you for the assessment content
- You will gain real industry knowledge through practical scenarios and guest industry speakers

What you need to know about this course
- The course is delivered using a blended learning model which includes timetabled classroom attendance and flexible directed self study hours.
- Classes are held in the College’s fully equipped training rooms by our qualified and industry experienced trainer/assessor.
- The 4 units of competency included in the short course are:
- CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
- CHCCCS041 Recognise healthy body systems
- HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
Are there Assessments?
- Assessment for each unit of competency in this course will be conducted through a variety of assessment methods to confirm competency, including short answer questions, case scenarios and practical demonstration.
- You will receive clear assessment instructions and an opportunity will be provided for resubmission of assessments if required.
Pathway to Further Training and Employment
This short course provides a pathway to:
- CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
- HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
- HLT33021 Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance
- CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health
Funding
This course is fully funded by the NSW Government for applicants who meet the eligibility criteria below.
- An Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/ NZ Citizen/Humanitarian visa holder or a partner visa holder whose sponsor is a humanitarian visa holder; and
- Live or work in NSW, and
- No longer at school, and
- 2024 School leaver or aged 17-24 years (no longer at school)
College Trainers
All NBMC Trainers/Assessors are current industry professionals with the required qualifications to deliver and assess this course. Trainers draw upon and share their own experiences in the industry to ensure that the training delivered to you is current and relevant.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)
From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence (eg passport or driver’s licence) used when creating your USI, eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used. Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place.
