Course testimonials:

  • I have totally enjoyed the course. I find it challenging every week. John Wells takes an interest in all students' work and he advises as required. I find John a very experienced people person.
  • I enjoyed the interaction between students and our teacher John.
  • The tutor John Wells is extremely good
  • I enjoyed the interaction with John and the class as a whole. Plus I feel that I have learnt more than I thought I could, thank you to all involved.
  • I love being in a group of like minded people. We all love this class so much. Monday is my favourite day of the week. John is excellent and very helpful. His guidance encourages our individuality. I look forward to next term. John is a very talented artist and we appreciate that he comes so far on public transport to teach us. We are indeed privileged.
  • I enjoyed learning some new techniques from our teacher John and I enjoy the camaraderie of the class. John is a great facilitator of general enjoyment of the class.
  • I enjoyed the interaction with other class members and John’s teaching style.
  • I really enjoyed the friendly group interaction with like-minded happy people. I like that there is still a vast difference between the competence levels of the class, it is good to see new ideas, be encouraged to know how far we could go as amateur painters and to receive encouragement for our efforts, often in very different styles. I'm impressed with John's expertise, his vast knowledge of not only painting but also other art forms as an author and an actor. His tips on how to improve some art work are very helpful and come from experience to which we would otherwise not have access. I have also attended two life drawing sessions at John's invitation and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge they posed for me. The fact that I was able to draw images of the model that actually resembled her is something I found amazing. As for the watercolour painting, I just love it. I love how the colours can just 'melt' into each other to a marbled effect . I love the very different interpretations of the same or similar image done by the whole class. The class is my favourite activity for the week.
  • I enjoyed learning additional water colour skills from my teacher John and I enjoyed the company of the other students.
  • Excellent choice of subject matter and freedom to develop individual style,
