Course Outline

Have you always wanted to learn to update your furniture but aren’t sure where to start? Do you want to refresh that bedside table, chair or mirror that you’ve had for ages or perhaps update a family heirloom and fall in love with it again?

Reuse and upcycling are important elements in the fight to preserve our environment, and this class will show you how to renovate furniture items to give them a future purpose.

This course will take the form of a tutorial and there will be plenty of chances to ask questions, try things out and be creative. No experience is necessary.

What will I learn?

In this workshop (6 hours duration) you will learn to prepare, paint and finish your piece with eco-friendly chalk paint and sealing products. We will cover what to look out for when reviving old furniture, how to choose the style and colour for your piece and how to paint to a beautiful finish without brush marks and drips. Please note time limitation restricts the size of the piece of the furniture to the equivalent of a bedside table, dining chair, small side table or mirror.

Once you have a few basic furniture painting skills under your belt you will have the confidence to tackle your upcycling projects at home and save those old treasures from landfill. Please note there is a $20 fee payable to the tutor on the day for materials.

About the Tutor

My name is Sarah Macaulay and I am a local furniture painter and teacher based in Seaforth. I have my own business reviving old furniture, and a passion for showing others how they can save their own tired pieces from landfill and make them both beautiful and fit for modern living.
