Course Outline

In this one day Felt making course, you will learn how to make a wet felted vessel. Which can be
used as an ornamental piece, a tea light holder or a receptacle for dry flowers.

The methods learnt can be advanced and taken further by the felting enthusiast to make bags,
hats or slippers, in fact there are so many applications it is hard to list them all, you are only
limited by your imagination.

The process of wet felting is simple it is the alchemy of loose fibre, water, soap and friction, and at
the end of the process you have a sturdy, solid and stable non woven fabric. It is truly amazing
observing the transformation.

Each student will be provided with all the materials they require and will at the end of the session
leave with a completed project.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Additional $25.00 payable to the tutor for the kit (The Tutor will have  wool fibre kits, available for purchase on the day, and some felting equipment on hand for students to use. Pre cut resists will be provided to students as part of the kit.)

2 old towels and plastic bag to take home completed project.

About the Tutor:

Katherine is a Sydney based fibre artist, specializing in felt making. She has a background in fine
arts, but fell in love with felting in 2015 when she participated in an introductory felt making class.
Since that time her passion and curiosity for felting has grown, the infinitive possibilities of what
can be created from the process of felting always exciting and stimulating. Her passion and
curiosity in wanting to learn more of the craft has led her to participate in numerous workshops
led by talented local and international felt artists. A highlight has been travelling to Hungary in
2018 and attending a series of workshops with master Hungarian Felters.
She has led workshops for ATASDA (Australian Textiles and Surface Design Association) at the
Craft and Quilt Fair (Sydney) and at their member’s retreat, during Sydney Craft Week. She also
runs workshops from her studio, and at Community Colleges. Katherine sells her felted creations
at Timeless Textiles, (a gallery dedicated to the fibre arts and artisans) as well as Grassroots Eco
Store, Castlecrag. She has won awards in the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Arts and Crafts
Competition and is an active member of ATASDA for which she served as a committee member
from 2018-2020.
