Course Outline:

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

In this felt making workshop students will learn how to make a nuno felted
scarf.
Nuno Felting is a wet felting technique where wool or other animal fibre is
felted or entangled with and through an open weave fabric such as silk
chiffon or silk gauze.
The felting is accomplished by applying water, soap and friction to the two
fibres causing them to fuse together into a stable non woven fabric.
The fabric produced is non stretch, lightweight with a beautiful drape.
Each student will be provided with all the materials required and will have a
completed project at the end of the session (equipment such as bubble wrap, soap, pool noodle that the students will need for the workshop will be provided)

What to Bring:

Sharp pointy scissors
2 old towels
Plastic bag to take home completed project.

Please bring with you on the day:  Additional $25.00 payable to the tutor for the kit on the day which will include silk fabric and wool for making the scarf.

About the Tutor:

Katherine is a Sydney based fibre artist, specializing in felt making. She has a background in fine
arts, but fell in love with felting in 2015 when she participated in an introductory felt making class.
Since that time her passion and curiosity for felting has grown, the infinitive possibilities of what
can be created from the process of felting always exciting and stimulating. Her passion and
curiosity in wanting to learn more of the craft has led her to participate in numerous workshops
led by talented local and international felt artists. A highlight has been travelling to Hungary in
2018 and attending a series of workshops with master Hungarian Felters.
She has led workshops for ATASDA (Australian Textiles and Surface Design Association) at the
Craft and Quilt Fair (Sydney) and at their member’s retreat, during Sydney Craft Week. She also
runs workshops from her studio, and at Community Colleges. Katherine sells her felted creations
at Timeless Textiles, (a gallery dedicated to the fibre arts and artisans) as well as Grassroots Eco
Store, Castlecrag. She has won awards in the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW Arts and Crafts
Competition and is an active member of ATASDA for which she served as a committee member
from 2018-2020.
